English
This subject aims to develop a pupil's understanding and use of the spoken word; the ability to read, understand and respond to all types of texts and the skills necessary to construct and convey meaning in written language.

Mathematics

All pupils follow the SMP 11-16 Graduated Assessment Syllabus. The syllabus offers a modular approach to the study of mathematics.

Science

Science is a broad study of the three main Sciences - Chemistry, Physics and Biology as well as related topics such as Earth Science and Astronomy. Every pupil has at least three lessons of Science each week, although most will have six. Rumney Science Page

History

History develops important educational skills such as comprehension, analysis and making judgments. It develops understanding of how other people think and feel. It is vital in helping to understand the world we live in. To find out about our recent trip to the World War 1

Geography

The syllabus consists of a balanced coverage of physical, environmental and human aspects of the subject and will highlight the linkage which exists between them. It also promotes an issues based, investigative approach with an emphasis on problem-solving and enquiry based learning.

Welsh

You will hear Welsh spoken more and more around the streets of Cardiff. Banks, cinemas, offices and shops increasingly cater for Welsh speakers who want to use the Welsh language. Wales is the natural home of this, the oldest European language still actively spoken.

French

The aim of the course is to encourage positive attitudes to foreign language learning by developing the pupils` ability to use French effectively for practical communication. The course also aims to promote general learning skills which will be of benefit to all pupils.

Design and Technology

The course includes CDT (resistant materials), Electronic Products, Graphic Products, Food Technology and Textiles Technology.

Art

The subject aims to develop visual literacy by using direct observation and personal experience. To develop practical and critical responses to the work of recognised artists, to the work of other people and the pupils' own work. To develop creative, imaginative and practical skills. Music

The course involves listening, composing and performing. The subject requires concentration, commitment and dedication. Pupils are expected to work very hard in all three areas in order to improve their musicianship skills

Religious Education

The course is divided into five units - Relationships, Our World, Looking for meaning, Identity and belonging and Issues of justice and equality.

Physical Education

The course covers both the theory and practical side of the subject. Attendance and full participation is essential and pupils are expected to wear the correct kit.

Careers

Careers guidance is offered to Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils. Year 10 pupils undertake a two week work experience with a local employer, are monitored and receive accreditation. There is also a possibility of foreign work experience.
