Curriculum
The curriculum
is the sum total
of all the learning experiences
offered to pupils while at school.

The curriculum at
Rumney High School is taught through the medium of English
Our aim is to
offer each pupil a broad, balanced relevant and coherent learning
experience that will provide a foundation on which they can build
their future lives. Emphasis is placed on the children working
to the very best of their ability in groups suitable to their
level of attainment.
The National
Curriculum is now in place for all subjects.
Key Stage
3 (Years 7 - 9)
During the first
three years all pupils will study the following subjects : English,
Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Welsh, French, Technology,
Art, Music, Religious Education and Physical Education. Personal
and Social Education permeates all areas of the curriculum and
subjects such as Drama are used to enhance other subject delivery
as well as occupying a timetable in its own right. Information
Technology will be used in subject deliveries.
Key Stage
4 (Years 10 - 11)
In the fourth
and fifth years, all pupils study : English, Mathematics, Science,
Welsh, Religious Education, Physical Education. and Careers Guidance.
A Modern Language is offered for the majority of pupils. A large
number of other subjects are offered as options and these are
indicated on page
6. Again Information Technology
will be used in subject deliveries and pupils may choose to specialise
in this subject as one of their options. Personal and Social
Education will permeate all subjects taught.
All courses offered
to the pupils lead to GCSE, COEA or other appropriate
vocational qualifications.

Post 16 provision
- General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQ'S)
The school has
been able to gain franchise agreements from Coleg Glan Hafren,
through the East Cardiff Collegium to provide GNVQ courses
on the Rumney High School site. These are available to students
continuing their education or those wishing to return and obtain
these qualifications.
